Biography:
I am the Interim Director of the Center for Law, Technology and Innovation at Michigan State University College of Law. I am the Executive Director and Chief Innovation Officer of Kennedy Idea Propulsion Laboratory, a division of Dennis Kennedy Advisory Services LLC, an author and speaker well-known for promoting innovation and the use of technology in law practice, and an infotech and digital transformation lawyer. I teach “Entrepreneurial Lawyering” and “Delivering Legal Services” courses in the LegalRnD program at Michigan State University and taught "Legal Tech Literacy and Leadership" at U of Michigan Law in Spring 2020. I help forward-looking legal organizations improve their innovation efforts. I'm an innovation consultant, author and speaker well-known for understanding underlying technologies and platforms while being easy to work with, responsive to global clients, and focused on real-world results. I concentrate on advisory services and consulting on innovation, legal technology and productization, including “Legal Innovation as a Service” packages and the Kennedy Idea Propulsion Laboratory. I am also a professional keynote speaker and serve on advisory boards for legaltech companies. While Senior Counsel for the Digital Payments & Labs group at Mastercard, I focused on infotech and paymenttech law, including mobile wallets, APIs, Open Source, and new payments technologies (e.g., blockchain and IoT). I have written hundreds of articles on legal technology, innovation, law practice management, and legal topics. I have co-authored four well-received books, the latest of which is “The Lawyer’s Guide to Collaboration Tools and Technologies” (2nd edition, 2018) with Tom Mighell. My newest books, "Successful Innovation Outcomes in Law: A Practical Guide for Law Firms, Law Departments and Other Legal Organizations" and "Make LinkedIn Work for You: A Practical Handbook for Lawyers and Other Legal Professionals" (with Allison Shields) were published in 2019. I am a Fellow of the College of Law Practice Management and recently chaired the board of the ABA’s Legal Technology Resource Center. I was one of the first lawyers with a webpage (1995), one of the first lawyer-bloggers, and have co-hosted the Kennedy-Mighell Report podcast since 2006. I'm @denniskennedy on Twitter.
